 液環(huán)真空泵有單級、雙級之分，以及單作用和雙作用區(qū)別。單級和雙級真空泵指其葉輪的級數(shù)；單/雙作用指其葉輪/殼體的形式，單作用葉輪真空泵的葉輪旋轉(zhuǎn)一周氣體經(jīng)歷一次吸入/排出；雙作用的真空泵其葉輪旋轉(zhuǎn)一周經(jīng)歷兩次氣體的吸入與排出。

 液環(huán)真空泵是靠偏置葉輪在泵腔內(nèi)回轉(zhuǎn)運動使工作室容積周期性變化以實現(xiàn)抽氣的真空泵。它的工作室由旋轉(zhuǎn)液環(huán)和葉輪構(gòu)成，其結(jié)構(gòu)和工作原理與液環(huán)壓縮機相似。工作時吸氣口接被抽真空容器。
若泵腔內(nèi)如充的是水，則稱為水環(huán)真空泵。水環(huán)真空泵結(jié)構(gòu)簡單,制造容易,工作可靠,使用方便，耐久性強，可抽除腐蝕性、含塵氣體和氣水混合物。被抽氣體溫度以0~40℃為宜。循環(huán)水不應含有雜質(zhì)。水環(huán)真空泵的抽氣速率范圍為0.25～500米(/小時；極限壓力：單極泵為8×10(～2×10(帕,雙級泵為2×10(～1×10(帕。水環(huán)真空泵主要用于真空蒸餾、真空干燥和水泵引水等方面。
